"Bring Me The Mad Ones"
An original poem release celebrating those who bravely and boldly seek truth above all else
This marks the last week of original releases before I unveil my band’s latest studio-produced single, “Burn Out This Flame.” I am so excited to share the official lyric video with you, and it all happens right here exclusively on Substack Friday, August 11th. If you haven’t already, subscribe at the end of this post so you don’t miss the premiere!
For this last week of original releases before the big reveal, I share with you a poem that will be a part of an upcoming book collection of essays and poetry (more on that soon!). I hope you enjoy, “Bring Me The Mad Ones” below.
Normally, I’d include a bit of context before the poem. Besides the nod to the influence of Poe in my work via the illustration above, and the other nod to my favorite truth seeker and philosopher Aristotle, I thought I’d leave this original up to your own interpretation. What does it mean to you? Let me know in the comments!
“The high-minded man must care more for the truth than for what people think.”
-Aristotle
Bring Me The Mad Ones
by Rebecca Day
Bring me the mad ones.
The ones who see life a little crooked.
The children mesmerized by fire,
Wondering how brightly flames can burn.
Bring me the ghostly figure.
The old soul who wanders the quiet night
Because street lamps bear more answers than
Daybreak.
Bring me the mad ones.
Not boys who think outside of the box,
But ones who understand there is no box at all.
Send me thinkers who are called crazy.
Not because of pills they take,
But because of pills they refuse to swallow.
Bring me the wolf who strays from the pack
And howls at his own god.
Surround me with mad ones.
I am the girl who bites the hand
Begging to feed her lies.
