Stoicism is actually making a bit of a comeback. It's been a part of cognitive-behavioral therapy for a while. Yes, you actually can stop being triggered if you want to be...

I think the Amazon's popular with men because it's a woman who likes guy stuff--look at the immense popularity of 'gamer girls'. And...maybe a femdom fantasy too.

Ironically in the modern era with most status achievements now not being tied to physical strength you can have much more realistic Amazons--a successful female entrepreneur or Nobel laureate is, effectively an 'amazon' in having excelled in a traditionally-male field.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. I'm a big fan of Stoicism and think it can do a lot for people individually, especially in a society that teaches emotion over reason. Ryan Holiday has been brilliant with resurrecting the philosophy and bringing it into the mainstream.

I agree with you about the Amazons. Because of their marginal status they were shrouded in mystery, which excited the Ancient Greeks whose female counterparts were highly domesticated. There's a reason why Greek men painted Amazon women on so many of their vases. I think they revered them a lot more than history has let on so far. I follow the developments happening right now due to technological advancements with bone density. It has unearthed a treasure trove of (women's) history.

Though they've been shrouded in mystery and mythology for a long time, 'Amazons' were a lot more prevalent than we've been lead to believe. That's a great point, modern day Amazons take many forms, especially now that so much work is mental versus physical.

Thanks for these! I've had my eye on Chaos, but I will now add "Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy" to my list as well.

Fabulous list! Now I have to read the book about the Amazons, and Lewis' book! I loved 'Chaos.' What a read, and a terrifying one at that. Nice work!
